Check Out the New JWC Rep Insider
New Look. New Experience.
We hope you like the new look for our Rep Insider newsletter. It still offers the same great content to keep you informed of the latest news from JWC but is now in a more streamlined format. Also, we’re adding a new series where we’ll introduce you to some of your key support staff at the JWC factory. While Greg and Saretta shared in the last newsletter that there are plans to invest in additional resources this year, there already are a lot of great staff at JWC, and we want you to get to know them and know how they can help you. Finally, keep reading the newsletter to get details of our upcoming product training plans at the JWC factory.
Whiskey, Words & Wisdom by Stacy Belanger
If you remember in my last article, there have been requests for back-to-basics product training. With that in mind, let’s focus on the benefits of our Auger Monster™. First released in 1996, we have shipped over 1,500 units since its inception. Common product type names include screw screen, spiral screen, in-channel auger fine screen, micro strainer and spiral screw screen. The Auger Monster combines fine screening, washing, conveyance and dewatering in a single unit. A cylindrical perforated screen basket captures solids. A shaftless auger removes the solids up an angled incline where the screenings are washed and dewatered. At the end of the transport tube, the solids are discharged and are ready to take to a landfill.
As the Auger Monster is an all-in-one solution, it’s perfect for plants with limited space in and around their channel, plants with a limited budget or both. They are also very popular at correctional facilities. The Auger Monster eliminates the need for a separate screen, conveyance system and washer compactor. And if you remember from my last Whiskey, Words & Wisdom article, if you add a Muffin Monster® or Channel Monster® grinder to pre-treat the influent, you can improve the cleaning of the screenings, reduce the volume of the discharge and protect the screening basket from damage caused by large, heavy material. It’s a great benefit to the customer by creating a more pleasant working environment and reducing operational costs. And the benefit to you is that by specifying a grinder with an Auger Monster, you can greatly reduce your competition, as most other manufacturers cannot package a grinder with their screens.
If you would like more information on the Auger Monster, please check out its product page on the JWC website. If you have any questions about the performance or benefits of the Auger Monster, please do not hesitate to contact me at stacyb@jwce.com. And if you have the opportunity for an Auger Monster, please engage your Regional Sales Manager as early as possible so we may work with you to develop a winning strategy.
The Launch of Muffin Monster University
You asked for it. We’re delivering! After a successful pilot training session in 2022 where we received a lot of positive feedback, we are excited to launch product training at the JWC factory in 2023. We’ve incorporated the suggestions from our pilot program into our 2023 training program to make this year’s training bigger and better. This year, we will have two opportunities for product training sessions at the JWC factory in 2023. It is the perfect opportunity to get in-depth and hands-on knowledge of the JWC product portfolio. The training will include:
- Review of the full product portfolio including features, benefits and competitive advantages
- Discussion on aftermarket services offerings
- Opportunity to build a grinder
- Grinder start-up and troubleshooting overview
- Meet your in-house support team
These two full-day training sessions will be offered April 11-12 and August 15-16. There are a limited number of spots available for each training session and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Lunch will be provided at the training, but you are responsible for all other travel expenses. We have negotiated a $199 per night room rate at the Homewood Suites which includes breakfast and is within walking distance of the JWC office. Please email Peggy Sherer at margarets@jwce.com with your contact information if you want to reserve a spot or have a question about the training.
Accelerate Your Aftermarket Quotes
Thank you for helping us hit a record year for our aftermarket business. As we continue you grow, we’ve put internal processes in place to assist with service levels. From time to time, we see opportunities for us to work together more effectively in order to speed up response time on some quotes. One of these ways is by providing pertinent information at the time of request. When submitting requests for quotes, please include the following four items:
- Serial Number and/or Sales Order Number
- Type of request (parts, renew, upgrade, repair, tech labor)
- Who should JWC send the quote to (customer, rep or both)
- Revision type, if applicable (price revision, product revision or both)
When these four questions are addressed up front, it minimizes the back-and-forth time between you and our teams, helping us all to service customers faster. As a reminder, the serial number may be found on the unit’s name tag, in the operating manual or on the associated controller’s label located inside its door.
Finally, when sending us a PO, please reference the quote number to facilitate efficient processing.
It’s Our Golden Anniversary This Year
1973 marked the year of new beginnings: Motorola invented the first mobile phone; the US pulled out of the Vietnam War; women were allowed to serve on juries; and our very own JWC Environmental was founded.
50 years later, JWC continues to design, build and service the world’s most dependable solids reduction and solids removal products. Our success and longevity is largely in part to you!
We have celebrated many milestones in our 50 years together, including:
- Inventing the dual-shafted sewage grinder
- Earning over 70 patents
- Developing innovative technologies such as Wipes Ready®
- Winning the Water Environment Federation’s Innovative Technology Award five times (more than any other manufacturer)
- And many more
While our official anniversary is May 7, we will be celebrating our golden anniversary all year long. Be on the lookout for special swag, contests, media articles and of course, we will be celebrating at WEFTEC!
Cheers to an incredible five decades with many more to come!
Meet Your JWC Support Team – Mike Wolf
For our first get to know our team feature, we’ve selected Mike Wolf, Customer Service Specialist. Mike will be celebrating his 25th anniversary at JWC later this year. Would you believe he was hired by Warren Brown at Aqua Solutions? Mike’s responsibilities include providing product technical support to our customers, processing warranty requests and supporting our in-factory repairs to make sure they proceed smoothly. If you need mechanical assistance on any of our products out in the field, he’s the guy to contact for help.
Mike was originally hired as a Service Technician, specializing in Auger Monster™ start-ups and training. He remembers a start-up out in Temecula, CA where the customer told him that it’s not product performance or quality that makes a supplier stand out but the service they provide and that JWC’s service is the best. Temecula felt JWC stood behind its products. That message really resonated with Mike as he has continued to provide top-notch service to our customers through the years to make sure we remain at the top of our customers’ minds. Another career memory that sticks out is how impressed he was at what a grinder can do after witnessing a grind test of a futon. The futon had a cow print cushion which probably contributes to why he remembers that particular grind test.
Regarding his personal life, Mike is happily married and has two grown children. When he’s not working, he loves to play golf. He describes himself as a player who thinks he’s better than he really is. He is also an avid hiker and enjoys camping. His “Hike with Mike” outings are very popular with his JWC teammates, and we look forward to the upcoming longer days of sunlight so we may resume these hikes.
If you ever need product support for a product out in the field, please do not hesitate to contact Mike. His email is michaelw@jwce.com and his phone number is 714-428-4737.
