Industrial Wastewater Treatment Technologies

Improve Your ROI With Industrial Wastewater Equipment

Did you know that industrial wastewater equipment can actually help you improve your return on investment (ROI)? If you run a manufacturing facility, you may be dealing with water shortages, high municipality charges, and stringent water quality requirements. In each of these situations, you can easily reduce costs by using wastewater equipment to treat water for internal reuse.

When implementing this equipment, you can reduce or even eliminate the need to spend extra money on raw water or relying on a municipal plant for wastewater treatments.

IPEC Industrial Screening Equipment for Industrial Wastewater

JWC’s line of IPEC industrial screening equipment for industrial wastewater applications are designed to:

  • Provide superior solids recovery from waste streams
  • Maximize industrial wastewater pre-treatment
  • Protect downstream processes
  • Reduce further treatment costs

We offer three main types of screening equipment:

  • Internally Fed Rotary Drum Screens: Water enters the screen and flow is dispersed into the drum from the head box. The screen drum is rotated with a chain drive, and waste drains through the screen and out of the bottom of the unit. Our IFO, IFU, and IFS Internally Fed Rotary Drum Screens can be customized to fit specific applications, including protein rendering, fruit and vegetable processing, and pulp and paper production.
  • Externally Fed Rotary Drum Screens: In an Externally Fed Rotary Drum Screen, water enters through and builds on the drum exterior. Our Externally Fed Screen works well in applications where water has high oil, grease, and scum loadings. It performs well in municipal wastewater operations as well as meat, poultry, seafood, and pulp and paper operations.
  • Stationary Sidehill Screens: In this type of screen, wastewater or slurry enters a headbox where solids are kept in suspension. Wastewater overflows the distribution dam onto a steeply sloped ramp that directs flow over the screen surface. Solids are then separated and collected from the discharge lip. JWC’s SHS and SHP Sidehill Screens are economical solutions for the dewatering of solid wastes, particularly in fruit and vegetable processing, breweries, and pulp and paper mills.

Industrial Wastewater Screening Equipment FAQ

Screens are one component of an industrial wastewater treatment system. These screens perform several functions in separating contaminants from industrial wastewater; they can recover solids from waste streams and protect downstream processes. They can also maximize pre-treatment of industrial wastewater, and help to reduce further treatment costs.

Internally Fed Rotary Drum Screen Operation

For Internally Fed Rotary Drum Screens, the influent enters a short spillway, where the energy is dissipated and the flow is evenly distributed onto the interior of the rotary screening drum. Solids are retained on the screen surface while the liquid flows radially out through the screen openings. Screened solids are transported axially by internal flights, to the open end of the rotary drum screen. The entire screening surface is intermittently washed by a fixed external spray bar.

Externally Fed Rotary Drum Screen Operation

For Externally Fed Rotary Drum Screens, the raw influent enters a headbox which distributes the flow evenly across the full length of the rear, upper external surface of the rotating drum. As water passes through the screen, solids are retained on the outside of the screen drum and are carried by rotation around to the front of the screen, where they are removed by a fixed doctor blade. The screened water cascades down inside the drum and falls through the bottom, creating a vigorous backwash action. This action, together with the use of internal water sprays, self-cleans the drum on every revolution.

Static Sidehill Screen Operation

For Stationary Sidehill Screens, the wastewater or slurry enters a headbox where hydraulic turbulence keeps solids in suspension. The wastewater overflows a distribution weir onto a steeply sloped ramp orienting the flow tangentially onto the screen surface. The liquid passes through the openings in the wedgewire to a drainage pan. The solids slide down the surface of the screen to the discharge lip.

Water is an essential component for many manufacturing processes. When water is used in the production of foods, wastewater is produced. General manufacturing also produces industrial wastewater with a variety of substances that can potentially be hazardous.

Wastewater contaminants can include selenium, heavy metals, and other chemicals and substances. Food production, whether for humans or pets, often includes contamination with fats, oils, and grease (FOG). Food and other manufacturing processes also create total suspended solids (TSS) in wastewater.

Whether wastewater from industry contains inorganic or organic contaminants, these materials must be removed using wastewater screening equipment.
